Last year, before I got my camera, I saw there were some patches of violets in bloom near my apartment building. By the time I got my camera and all the necessary stuff that went with it so I could actually take pictures, the property maintenance people had mowed over them.
This year, I saw the violets were back. For a few days, I just noticed they were there and thought to myself that I needed to get out and photograph them. Finally, one day, the weather was particularly nice, and I knew the property maintenance people would be coming the next day. I take a walk twice a day, and when I got home, I got my camera, stuck in a battery and memory card, attached the strap, and went out again to take pictures. I didn’t want to risk having the violets mowed over before I could photograph them again.
When I reached the violets, I had to spend a few seconds getting the zoom settings right for some close ups, and I had to tap the screen a few times to tell the camera what I wanted to focus on. Then I spent some time wandering from patch to patch, taking pictures. The last time I had my camera out, I had it set on the setting for motion, and I just left that on. I noticed after I recorded a sequence that some of the shadows in the pictures turned blue on the screen, and I hoped that wouldn’t last when I got a chance to go through the sequences and decide which pictures I wanted to keep. It was kind of hard to see what I was photographing, thanks to the sun, which was another worry. Would I get anything good?
A few hours after returning home, I looked through the various sequences to see what I had. As I had hoped, the blue lines disappeared on the actual pictures. There were also a lot of pictures of plain grass, or sidewalk, thanks to the sun making it hard to see what I was photographing. However, there were also several good shots of clumps of violets. I chose the three best to post to the photo selling sites. I chose one of the pictures of purple violets because, if you look closely, the flowers have a slightly reddish tinge to them. I had never seen violets that shade of purple before.
There were several pictures of violets that I took and kept, but decided not to post to the selling sites. Here are those pictures:
